KATHMANDU, Feb 7: KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Para player Bikram Shrestha has won the bronze medal in the Eighth World Para Taekwondo Championship organized in Antalya, Turkey on Wednesday.
In P-32 poomsae singles, Shrestha was limited to bronze after suffering a 20-7 defeat at the hands of Russia’s Andrei Gravoski. Earlier, Shrestha, who got a bye in the first match, beat Morocco’s Bilal Khattawi 6-5 to make it into the last four.

In the U-30 category, Russia’s Gravoski won the gold medal, Croatia’s Damazov Bhusis claimed the silver, while Shrestha and Italy’s Ricardo Jimmerman were joint-third and won bronzes. This is the first international medal won by Nepal in poomsae of para. Shrestha was able to win a medal in his first participation in the championship.
In K-44 U-49 kg gyarogi category, Nepal’s Palesa Gobardhan was defeated by Brazil’s Debaro Menez in the quarterfinals. A total of 425 players from 69 different countries took part in the championship. This championship is seen as a selection event for the 32nd Summer Olympics to be held in Japan in 2020.
