KATHMANDU, Oct 13: Compared to previous years, this year's Vijaya Dashami saw more activities in the capital. In past years, the streets of the capital used to be mostly deserted on the day of Bijaya Dashami.
The surge in activity can be attributed to fewer people leaving the city. Warnings about the damage caused by floods and landslides to several roads leading out of the capital, following heavy rainfall a week before Ghatasthapana, contributed to this trend. With fewer travelers departing, the streets have experienced an uptick in local activity.
With the increase in activity in the capital, more public and private vehicles were seen on the roads. Traffic Police Office also reported that there were more vehicles on the streets this year compared to previous years.

Many people traveling to receive tika in various parts of the capital shared that they found public transportation more readily available this year compared to past years.
Jagdish Bhandari shared his experience that last year there were no vehicles available from Ratnapark to Nagpokhari on Bijaya Dashami, but this year he found transportation available easily.
Although the roads damaged by floods and landslides have been repaired, there are concerns that problems could arise again, leading to fewer passengers leaving the capital this year.
Sociologist Kirtikumar Dumi Rai said that the increasing number of Nepali families residing in the capital is also a factor for the lower number of people traveling outside the Kathmandu Valley. He pointed out that the population concentrated in the capital, major cities, and district headquarters is on the rise. This has contributed to the greater hustle and bustle observed in the capital during this year's Bijaya Dashami.
