KATHMANDU, Nov 3: The Bal Gopaleshwar Temple, located in the heart of Rani Pokhari in Kathmandu, opens today for those without sisters. This temple is traditionally opened every year on Bhai Tika day during the Tihar festival.
On Bhai Tika day, individuals without siblings visit the temple to perform worship, receive blessings, and apply tika. The Newar community celebrates this day as "Kijapuja," although reports indicate that some Newar community members observed Kijapuja on Saturday.

The inscription on the site states that King Pratap Malla constructed Rani Pokhari in 1727 BS to console the queen after the death of their son, Chakravartendra Malla. The Bal Gopaleshwar Temple at the center of the pond was established at that time.
Similarly, at the Khanjaneshwar Mahadev Temple in Jayabageshwari, those without sisters or brothers will also participate in worship and apply tika today.
