The death toll from a bus accident in Baitadi has climbed to 13. Eight people died at the scene, while five others passed away during treatment at Dadeldhura Hospital.
The bus, carrying wedding guests, was traveling toward Bajhang from Bhavane in Purchaudi Municipality 7 of Baitadi. The vehicle, with registration number Sup Pra 02 001 Kha 1119, crashed at the Badgaon bend in Purchaudi 7 on Thursday.
Baitadi jeep accident: Death toll reaches six
According to Baitadi police chief Deepak Kumar Rai, those who died at the scene include 40-year-old Keshav Raj Joshi, 13-year-old Ashok Raj Joshi, 35-year-old Basanta Joshi, and 41-year-old Bishan Datt Joshi, all from Bitthadchir Rural Municipality 7 of Bajhang. Also killed were 60-year-old Mohan Dev Bhatt from Kedarsyu Rural Municipality of Bajhang, 40-year-old Basanta Raj Ratala from Jayaprithvi Municipality of Bajhang, and 40-year-old Pushpa Awasthi of Purchaudi Municipality 7 in Baitadi. One victim has yet to be identified.
Those who died during treatment at Dadeldhura Hospital include 17-year-old Bishan Datt Joshi, 28-year-old Deepak Raj Joshi, and 46-year-old Kisan Datt Joshi, all from Bitthadchir Rural Municipality 7 of Bajhang. Also, among the deceased are 27-year-old Keshav Raj Bhatt from Bassi in Kedarsyu Rural Municipality 7 and 15-year-old Sushil Joshi from Purchaudi Municipality 7 of Baitadi.
The accident injured 34 others. They are receiving treatment in Dadeldhura, Dhangadhi, and Bajhang. The bride and groom were not on the bus.
