At least nine Nepali migrant workers infected by coronavirus in Bahrain

KATHMANDU, April 4: At least Nine Nepali migrant workers have been infected by coronavirus in Bahrain, the Nepali Embassy in Manama said.


The Nepali nationals working at Salmabad-based local company infected by the coronavirus after a foreign worker working in the same company first tested positive for the deadly virus, according to the embassy.


With this, the number of Nepalis infected by COVID-19 has climbed to 12, the embassy stated on its Facebook update. Earlier, three Nepalis were infected by the deadly virus.

The embassy has urged the Nepali migrant workers to contact the embassy if they need any emergency assistance.


The Bahrain government has taken various precautionary and preventive measures to control the COVID-19 across the country.


"If any infected patients are found defying the government orders, they will be sent to jail for three months. Likewise, the violators will be fined from 1000 Bahraini dinar to 10, 000," the embassy said on its Facebook update while urging the Nepali nationals to strictly follow the Bahraini government's policies to combat the virus.


At least 286 coronavirus infected persons are undergoing treatment across Bahrain as of Friday, media reports said.
