Campaign against Elephantiasis begins

KATHMANDU, Feb. 1: The Ministry of Health and Population has urged everyone to take medicines against elephantiasis.



The medicines- albendazole and diethyl caramazin are being administered against the disease in 56 districts simultaneously including three districts in the Kathmandu valley from February 2-5 under the Ministry´s high priority programs.[break]



The program is run to eradicate the disease by 2018. People are affected from this disease in 61 districts of the country. The medicines should be taken for six years once a year, the Ministry said.



Minister for Health and Population, Rajendra Mahato initiated the program today, where Secretary Dr. Prabin Mishra called for taking the medicines without fear.



It should not be taken by children under two, pregnant women, seven day´s post delivery woman and seriously ill people. The disease is caused by mosquito bite.
