DHALKEBAR, DHANUSHA, Feb 1: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that Nepal is heading toward becoming self-reliant in the energy sector.
Inaugurating the 400 kV substation at Dhalkebar in Dhanusha on Monday, Prime Minister Oli said the infrastructure will serve as the main gateway to import and export electricity to India. The substation was constructed with joint investment by the Government of Nepal and Nepal Electricity Authority.

“We are becoming self-reliant in the energy sector. With the completion of this substation, we’re now capable of exporting electricity,” said Oli. “At present, we are self-reliant only in the rainy season. I’m confident that we’ll be completely self-reliant in the energy sector round the year in a couple of years.”
The substation, constructed under the program ‘National Electricity Development Decade’, enables Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the state-owned power utility, to exchange 1,000-1,200 megawatt of electricity with India via the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur cross-border transmission line.
Minister for Energy, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and Minister for Urban Development, Prabhu Shah were also present at the inauguration of the country’s biggest substation.
