KANCHANPUR, Jan 22: District Police Office in Kanchanpur has classified 66 of the district’s 132 polling stations as highly sensitive ahead of the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections.
Based on the security assessment, authorities have prioritised enhanced security measures at these locations to prevent any untoward incidents during the polls. Polling stations have been categorised as highly sensitive, sensitive, or normal depending on the assessed risk level.

“An integrated security plan has been prepared, involving the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police to ensure safe elections,” said Kanchanpur Police Chief SP Khadak Bahadur Khatri. “Polling stations deemed critical from a security perspective have been designated as sensitive zones.”
Kanchanpur’s proximity to the Indian border has contributed to the higher number of highly sensitive polling stations. To strengthen security, a three-tier security arrangement has been put in place: Nepal Police will handle the inner perimeter, the Armed Police Force the second layer, and the Nepali Army the outer perimeter.
According to the District Police Office, among the district’s three constituencies, Constituency No. 1 has 34 highly sensitive polling stations, Constituency No. 2 has 17, and Constituency No. 3 has 15.
