Two arrested with four socket bombs

KATHMANDU, Aug 29: Metropolitan Police Crime Division on Wednesday arrested Nawang Sangwo Lama, 22 and Raj Thakuri, 16, on the charge of possessing four bombs from Koteshwar, Kathmandu.



DSP Uma Chaturbedi of the Division said the two were arrested after they alighted from a bus which was coming from Kavrepalanchowk district. The police had been tipped off about the bombs. According to police the two had hidden the bombs in two bags wrapped in a plastic bags. Police said the two confessed that they were planning to sell the bombs in Kathmandu.



Our preliminary investigation has showed that the seized bombs look old but good to explode, he said adding, one of the arrested had claimed that the bombs were provided to them by a Maoist. [break]



The arrested have also confessed that they carried the bombs in return for payment, police said. Among the seized bombs two are 5.3 inch long and 3 inch wide and two others are 4 inch long and 2.3 inch wide.



Police suspect that the bombs were going to be used to influence the upcoming CA election.
