Earlier, on December 9, eight NC MPs led by Chief Whip Shyamkumar Ghimire had filed a petition seeking to include other interested MPs. Following that, 60 more MPs joined. Once approved, these MPs will formally join the main NC petition.
Against the HoR dissolution, 75 CPN-UML lawmakers had already submitted signatures. With 75 UML and 68 NC-allied MPs, a total of 143 lawmakers, out of a total of 275 lawmakers of the dissolved House, now support restoring the HoR.
In the 275-member House, 138 MPs are needed to form a government. NC and UML officials said the presence of a majority of lawmakers in court could facilitate the decision-making process.
Signatures under NC leadership also include small party MPs: JSP’s Hasina Khan, Janamat Party’s Goma Labh Sapkota, and independent MP Yogendra Mandal. The UML had filed its petition on November 26, and the NC MPs separately on December 9.
