BAJHANG, March 8
As per the country’s law, government employees are barred from holding another permanent post. However, many teachers at government schools and colleges in Bajhang district have been holding two permanent government jobs and drawing salaries and benefits from both.
But such teachers remain absent frequently from both jobs, hampering studies.
According to a reliable source, eleven teachers of Jaya Prithivi Multiple Campus of Bhojpur, the district’s oldest campus, have been found to be holding permanent posts at other government schools as well.“Many permanent teachers at Satyabadi and Pandu are also permanently employed at the campus, which is against the country’s law. And they are also taking the state’s benefits twice,” said Dil Bahadur Singh, former chairman of the campus’s managing committee and district chairman of UCPN-UML. “No action has been taken against them as they have political support. I had spoken out against it during my tenure as chairman of the campus’s managing committee, but no one supported me,” he added.
Bal Bahadur Khadka, who is in his third year studying B.Ed at the campus, teachers hardly come to the class. “Most of them work full-time at the schools and do not find time to teach us. As a result, our studies have been badly affected,” said Khadka.
Meanwhile, Ram Datta Upadhyaya, chairman of the Teachers’ Association, claimed that he has been regularly conducting classes at both the campus and school. “I have not been absent to the extent that deeply affects the campus’s environment. I teach in the campus in the morning and evening in Satyabadi HSS,” he said.
Acting District Education Officer Madan Thapa said that he would take actions against teachers holding permanent posts at two government institutions. “We will write to the schools demanding explanation. Action will be taken against those found guilty,” he added.
