KATHMANDU: Defending Champion Little Angels (LA) entered into the quarterfinals of the 16th National Father Moran Memorial Invitational Boys Football Tournament. The group stage match between LA and Rejina Amoris ended in a goalless draw on Thursday but LA was able to book the quarterfinals. Likewise, Dongdevi School, Tipling School, Dhading and LRI won their respective matches in the tournament organized by St Xavier´s School, Godawari. Dongdevi pulled a 3-2 win over Kathmandu University High School while LRI beat United 1-0.
Double delights for TIA
KATHMANDU: Host Trungram International Academy (TIA) reached the final of both boys´ and girls´ sections in the Ninth TIA Inter School Basketball Tournament. TIA will meet Daffodil in boys´ final while its girls´ team will face Mahendra Bhawan in the final. TIA thrashed Valley Public 65-44 in the semifinal on Thursday while Daffodil edged past Oasis 40-33. In girls´ section, TIA pulled a 24-20 victory over Daffodil in the semifinal while Mahendra Bhawan stunned Pennwood 23-19.
Gyanodaya begins carnival with win
KATHMANDU: Host Gyanodaya International Residential School won the opening match of the Inter School Boys´ Football Tournament under the 18th Eicher-Gyan Carnival. Gyanodaya beat Gyan Shikha 1-0 in the opening match played at the host´s ground at Khokana, Lalitpur. Narayan Silwal scored the lone goal of the match.
Annal Jyoti Cup begins
KATHMANDU: ´A´ team of the host Anal Jyoti won the opening match of the girls´ section in the 11th Anal Jyoti Cup Valley-wide Inter School Volleyball Tournament on Thursday. Annal Jyoti ´A´ defeated New Diamond ´B´ 25-18, 26-24. Likewise, Bhim Secondary School, Adarsha Saul, New Diamond ´A´ and Gyan Bigyan won their respective matches in the girls´ category on Thursday. In the mini-boys´ section, Gyanodaya struggled past Bhim School 25-14, 24-26, 25-21 while Paradigm School thrashed Anal Jyoti ´A´ 25-15, 25-20.
Technical seminar of athletics
KATHMANDU: A three-day seminar on the technical course of athletics kicked off Thursday at the Dasharath Stadium, Kathmandu. Nepal Amateur Athletics Association (NAAA) has organized this seminar to produce judges and timekeeper for the athletics competitions. “This is an attempt of developing technical manpower for the development of the game,” said Nilendra Raj Shrestha, the president of the NAAA. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama inaugurated the seminar participated by 115 persons.
EFG to lock horns with Tiger Tops
CHITWAN: Defending champion EFG of Switzerland and host Tiger Tops Nepal will lock horns in the final of the 30th International Elephant Polo Competition at Meghauli, Chitwan on Friday. In the semifinal matches played on Thursday, the host edged past Chitwan National Park 6-5. In another semifinal, EFG defeated Tiger Tops Tigris of Denmark 7-5.
Boys Union on top
KATHMANDU: Boys Union Club on Thursday came atop the standing in the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull B Division Football League with 2-0 win over Boys Sports Club being held at Nepal Police Academy, Maharjgunj. After six matches, Boys Union occupies top spot despite having equal 11 points as that of Birgunj Youth Club on the basis of goals superiority. Bijay Rai gave third minute lead to Boys Union and Nisan Limbu sealed the victory during the fading moments. Boys Sports with only one point is second from the bottom.
In another match, Samajik Yuva Club shared points with Sano Gaucharan with 2-2 draw. Sano Gaucharan came from two goals deficit. Narayan Dhimal had given third minute lead and Lal Bahadur Lama had doubled tally in the 11th minute. Sushil Kumar Yadav and Saurya Thapa scored for Sano Gaucharan in the 19th and 42nd minute. Samajik after playing five matches have accumulated six points and Sano Gaucharan after playing six matches have three points.
