KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Nepali rupee gained 6 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, strengthened against the greenback. Price of gold, on the other hand, increased by Rs 85 per 10 grams over week.
CURRENCY
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, opened currency trading on Sunday with value of US dollar fixed at Rs 107.04.
Rupee lost 8 paisa on Monday to settle at 107.12 against US dollar. However, rupee gained 12 paisa against the greenback on Tuesday to settle at 107. Rupee gained another 28 paisa against US dollar to 106.72 on Wednesday. The local currency lost 16 paisa against US dollar on Thursday to close at 106.88. Rupee lost 10 paisa against the greenback on Friday to close the week's trading at 106.98.
Similarly, rupee gained 63 paisa against euro and Rs 1.39 against Pound Sterling over the week. A euro was exchanged at Rs 112.93 on Friday, while the Pound Sterling was valued Rs 159.78.
BULLION
Gold price increased by Rs 85 per 10 grams this week. Trading opened on Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 41,325 per 10 grams.
The price came down by Rs 170 per 10 grams to Rs 41,155 on Monday. However, the yellow metal became expensive by Rs 340 per 10 grams on Tuesday to settle at Rs 41,495. Gold price came down by Rs 85 per 10 grams on Wednesday to settle at Rs 41,410. Price came down by another Rs 255 per 10 grams on Thursday to close at Rs 41,155. On Friday, the last trading day of the week, price of gold increased by Rs 255 per 10 grams to Rs 41,410.
Meanwhile, price of silver remained unchanged at Rs 579 per 10 grams this week.
