KATHMANDU, Jan 7: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel has said that he has not yet made any decision on whether or not to enter active politics in the future.
Speaking on Tuesday at Nagarik Frontline, Minister Kharel—who also serves as the government spokesperson—said that although he has received proposals from various political parties as the election approaches, he remains undecided about joining politics at this stage.
“It is true that I have received proposals from old and major political parties, and there have also been approaches from newer parties,” Minister Kharel said.

“Suggestions have also been coming from the public and various sectors. I am listening to everyone, but I have not yet made any decision on whether to enter politics, whether to contest elections, or not.”
He said that his current focus is entirely on making the government led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki successful and ensuring that the elections are held on the scheduled date.
“For now, I have left this matter to time,” he said. “I still have some academic commitments to complete, and there are certain family responsibilities as well. That is why I have not made any decision yet.”
Minister Kharel also said that although he entered Singha Durbar with many dreams upon becoming a minister, he has realized that it is not possible to fulfill those ambitions within a short span of six months.
“My ‘test’ as a minister is still ongoing,” he said. “Corruption seems to have become a system within the ministry. From a cup of tea to major policy decisions, there is a web of corruption. Seeing this sometimes feels suffocating.”
He added that although he may not have been able to accomplish much in a short period, he has made sincere efforts and remains committed to dedicating the rest of his life to the country and its people.
