Hari Kumar Rimal finished first in the male category. Kalyan Baniya, defending champion Rajendra Bhandari, Man Bahadur Thapa Magar and Hom Lal Shrestha were the other army men who completed the race in top five positions. [break]
Rimal completed the race in 1 hour 12 minutes and 19seconds ahead of Baniya (1:12:20), Bhandari (1:12:50), Thapa Magar (1:13:01) and Shrestha (1:13:17). Rimal bagged a purse of Rs 100,000 while Baniya, Bhandari, Thapa Magar and Shrestha received Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 respectively.
Winner Rimal said the traffic had affected his performance during the race. “I took more time than my training period.” Rimal had recently won Kantipur Half Marathon. Rimal, who competes in 5000m and 10,000m, had earlier won Birat Half Marathon in Biratnagar and Everest National Marathon in Butwal.
In women´s 10km race, Armed Police Force (APF) clinched the top three positions. Kanchi Maya Koju, Bindra Shrestha and Sonu Jaya Rai of APF finished in the top three positions. Mani Kala Khalin and Melina Rai finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Koju clocked 35 minutes 04.6 seconds to complete the race in first position while Shrestha (36:44.7) and Rai (41:24.3) finished second and third. Koju received Rs 25,000 while Shrestha, Sonu Jaya Rai, Khalin and Rai bagged Rs 10, 000, Rs 7,000, Rs 6,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
Laxman Kafle of Chwanga Bachat Tatha Rin Sahakari Sanstha won the Male Bankers 10km race while Raju Shrestha of Linkan Saving and Credit Co LTD finished second. With the win, Kafle bagged Rs 15,000 while Shrestha received Rs 10,000.
Sumitra Koju of Bhaktapur and Laden Pradhan of Nabil Bank finished in the top two position of Female Bankers 5km race. Koju bagged Rs 10,000 while Pradhan received Rs 8,000.
Anish Shrestha of Bansbari Higher Secondary School and Sujan Shrestha of Navajyoti clinched the top two positions of School Student 5km race and were awarded Rs 10,000, Rs 8,000 respectively. In the girls´ section of same distance, Rina Kapali of Nawaratna School and Bindu Bhandari of Bijeshori Gyan Mandir finished in the top two positions. They received Rs 10,000 and Rs 8,000.
In veterans 5km race, Ram Krishna Maharjan, Krishna Bahadur Gurung and Buddha Bir Lama finished in the top three positions. The top three received Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
Krishna Raj Chaudhary and Tej Bahadur Gharti Magar finished in the top two positions in wheel chair event. Tristan Gebhart from USA won the male foreigner 21km race while Miki Uprety from Japan won foreigner 10km race.
The top five finishers in each category also bagged cash prizes.
