KATHMANDU, Sept 14:Two constituent parties have quit the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), a loose alliance of Madhes-based parties, saying front is no more in existence.

Raj Kishore Yadav-led Madhesi People´s Right Forum-Republican (MPRF-R) and Mahendra Raya Yadav-led Tarai Madhes Democratic Party-Nepal (TMDP-N) have announced that they are no longer with the front. Other constituent parties of the front are Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (Democratic), Tarai Madhes Democratic Front and Rajendra Mahato-led Sadbhavana Party (SP). [break]

General Secretary of MPRF-R Sashi Kapur Miyan has claimed that UDMF is no longer a legitimate alliance. “TMDP Chairman Mahanth Thakur and MPRF-D Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar should be blamed for the disintegration of UDMF.”

Miyan also accused MPRF-D and TMDP of working against the cause of Madhes.

Refuting allegations by MPRF-R, Vice Chairman of MPRF-D Rameshwar Ray Yadav has claimed that UDMF was is still active. “The parties that have quit the alliance do not have any support base,” said Yadav. He also said that the absence of these two parties would not affect the alliance.

Insisting that UDMF was a loose alliance formed to join the Baburam Bhattarai-led government, SP central committee member Upendra Mahato said UDMF had lost its relevance after the dissolution of the Bhattarai-led government.

It should be noted that MPRF-R, TMDP-N, Sharat Singh Bhandari-led National Madhes Socialist Party (NMSP) and Anil Jha-led Federal Sadbhavana Party (FSP) have forged electoral alliance for the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.

On a different note, Mahato said the agreement on seat adjustment between MPRF-R, TMDP-N, NMSP and FSP should be taken positively.
