KATHMANDU, Jan 14: The Sher Bahadur Deuba-led faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) has submitted a letter to the Election Commission (EC) notifying the expulsion of General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma, along with Joint General Secretary Farmullah Mansoor, from the party.
Deuba faction leaders reached the EC office Wednesday afternoon to officially register the letter formalising the disciplinary action.
Earlier, the faction’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Sanepa had announced the three leaders’ five-year expulsion, citing actions against the party’s interests. The decision also bars them from being ordinary party members during this period.

The letter submitted to the EC serves to formally inform the commission of this decision.
Meanwhile, the expelled leaders have rejected the action, calling it unjustified. They claim that the majority of Special General Convention delegates support their side and have vowed not to accept the disciplinary move.
The Special General Convention faction has, in the meantime, continued the process to select a new party leadership.
