Mobile phones steal the show

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: ICT Association of Nepal celebrated the third day of 5th ICT Info-Trade Fair, Sunday, as ´Family Day´, offering special entrance ticket for families.



Under the offer, families of five could buy entrance ticket to the event for just Rs 200. The association has declared different days for students, families, corporate and business to manage the crowd effectively.[break]



Sagar Dev Lakhe, president of the association, said the association has declared the last day of the event, Monday, as ´Corporate and Official Day´. “A maximum of five people from a business firm or organization can visit the event by purchasing single ticket worth Rs 200,” Lakhe added. “Ticket for individual visitors for the day has been priced at Rs 50.”



The Info-Trade that kicked off on Thursday has on display the latest innovations in IT industry. Stalls showcasing mobile phones are the major crowd pullers at the event.



Roshan Bajracharya of New Road bought a Nokia handset at Rs 2,800. “This phone is priced Rs 3,100 in the market,” Bajracharya said, adding that he found mobile phones and Tablet PCs priced cheaper at the event. He suggested the organizers to make the Info-Trade a ´fixed price´ event so that consumers do not have to spend time bargaining over price.



Most of the visitors were seen bustling around stalls of mobile phones manufactures like Nokia, Samsung, Motorola G´Five, Karbonn and Micromax. These companies are offering up to 15 percent discount plus attractive gift like torch lights, recharge coupons worth Rs 500, jackets and apparels from John Players.



Though stalls of mobile phones are pulling crowd in droves, those dealing in computer accessories are not that happy with the turnout. “Though we have kept on display new accessories like laptop cooler, people seem more interested in small products like pen drive, keyboard and mouse among others,” said Mahesh Pant, proprietor of EPIC Computer Traders, Putalisadak.



Stalls of computer accessories are offering various products at discounted rates. While printer is available for just Rs 1,800, DVD recorder is priced at Rs 4,000, electronic blower costs Rs 900 and woofer can be taken home for as low as Rs 1,500. Similarly, hard drive case, webcam and laptop cooler are available for just Rs 500, joystick pad for Rs 300, laptop locker for Rs 200 and laptop presenter for Rs 1,800.



CN Upadhyaya, coordinator of the event, said the event has recorded transaction worth Rs 40 million till Sunday.
