While considering occupancy rate of five star hotels in Kathmandu only, it was 89.81 percent in November. Even during the lean tourist period the occupancy was above 50 percent. [break]
The room occupancy rate of five star hotels in Kathmandu showed the occupancy rate was 51.34 percent in July, 51.89 percent in January and 61.09 percent in September. Hoteliers said during previous years, occupancy rate during lean period was mostly below 50 percent.
Out of 538,375 rooms available in Kathmandu in NTY 2011, 355,925 were occupied, the statistics prepared by MoTCA in coordination with Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) said.
However, the number was not so encouraging while comparing the occupancy rate of Kathmandu with five star hotels in Pokhara. The average occupancy rate of Pokhara based five star hotels was 38.27 percent last year. Pokhara Grande and Fulbari Resort are the only two hotels in Pokhara that falls under the category of five star. The occupancy rate was highest in November, hovering around 66 percent and the occupancy rate in October was 51.98 percent.
Although the tourist arrivals was highest in the month of October, the room occupancy in five star was highest in the month of November. Likewise, the arrivals was low in January, June and July .
Officials of five star hotels opined that 2011 was a record breaking year in terms of arrivals as well as revenue.
Amir K. Pradhananga, director-sales and marketing at The Everest Hotel said that the growth was remarkable during lean period also. “The impact of NTY 2011 continues in 2012 also,” he said that significant growth in occupancy rate was continuing till present.
