Karna Limbu, Devendra Tamang and Dilen Loktan were on target for Jhapa, the runner-up of the recently concluded Jhapa Gold Cup in Birtamod. Dona Thapa netted the equalizer for Rupandehi at a point of the match which later turned only to be only a consolation goal.Karna Limbu put Jhapa ahead in the 32nd minute in a one-on-one situation with veteran goalkeeper Dilip Chhetri. Dona hit back the equalizer four minutes before break for Rupandehi when he volleyed a pass from Ajay BK.
Both the sides struggled for goals in the second half and created few chances. However, Jhapa scored in the late stage of the match to send Rupandehi packing home. Devendra headed five minutes from time to inject new life to Jhapa. Devendra, who was in the danger zone, headed in a freekick from Prabesh Katuwal from the middle of the pitch. Dilen ensured victory in the stoppage time after he headed a corner of Prabesh from the crowded zone.
Rupandehi coach Dayaram Sapkota pointed out windstorm after the break and lack of coordination among his young and inexperienced side as the reason for defeat. Jhapa's captain-cum-coach Prabesh Katuwal said that his side was forced to struggle until the last moment for win after they wasted some scoring chances. He also vowed to come up with improved show in the next match.
