KATHMANDU, June 12: The Department of Mines and Geology has deputed geologists' teams to sixteen districts hit by the recent earthquake and turned vulnerable to landslide.

The teams were assigned to carry out the geological survey in the districts with land slip, sink and crevices caused by the earthquake. They would work as subordination to the Settlements Relocation Committee formed under the coordination of lawmakers.Lamjung, Gorkha, Dhading, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Okhaldhunga, Kavrepalanchowk, Solukhumbu, Tanahu, Khotang, and Lalitpur have been selected for the geological survey, according to Department Director General Sarbajeet Prasad Mahato.

Besides, the Department is sending a geologists' team to Nanglebhare of Shankarapur Municipality in Kathmandu. The Department is planning to present study reports to the Ministry of Home Affairs within this week.

Teams of geologists and meteorologists which were scheduled to fly to Solukhumbu and Dolakha Friday to take the stock of glacial lakes in view of possible outburst in the aftermath of the massive earthquake were however forced to cancel the trip due to adverse weather.

There was a sudden flooding in the Dudhkoshi River in Solukhumbu Wednesday albeit without rainfall, increasing a suspicion that a small glacial lake in the district might have burst. Inja glacial lake in Soliuykhmbu and Tshorolpa in Dolkaha are at high risk of outburst and the Department has decided to send a study team there too, it is learnt. RSS
