NEPALGUNJ, Feb 22: A fire that broke out at an electronic store in Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City of Banke district around 3 am on Monday destroyed property worth over Rs 5 million, according to the police.

The incident took place because of a short circuit in the electronic store in Gharbari Tole of the sub-metropolitan city's ward number 2. Bikash Raj Bhandari, the store operator, informed that television sets, refrigerator, and watches along with various electronic items were completely destroyed.“We were not able to save any of the items in the store. The fire gutted everything,” he said. The fire was doused after two hours of efforts from the sub-metropolitan's fire brigade and help from police personnel and locals. “As the fire brigade reached to the scene quickly, the blaze was contained before it could spread to nearby stores,” informed Bimal Dhakal, a local entrepreneur. As summer season advances, fire incidents, too, have gone up in the district. However, the district is ill-equipped to deal with the rising incidents of fire as there is only one fire brigade for the whole district.
