KATHMANDU, May 17: The main opposition party, CPN-UML, has decided to withdraw the protest it started in parliament some nine months ago.
Addressing the parliament meeting on Tuesday, UML Deputy General Secretary Pradip Gyawali said they decided to change the form of their protest in parliament keeping in view of the grave situation the country is facing at the moment. He highlighted various problems including deepening economic crisis, liquidity crunch and lack of adequate spending of capital expenditure.

The UML had been obstructing parliament meetings since September 8, last year, alleging that Speaker Agni Sapkota had failed to play an impartial role in parliament. The UML began obstructing parliament, alleging that Speaker Sapkota did not sack the 14 UML lawmakers as recommended by the party.
Sapkota’s decision not to take action against 14 lawmakers including Madhav Kumar Nepal in August last year paved the way to form a new party called CPN (Unified Socialist), splitting the UML.
