Export of ginger to India declined by 62 per cent

Ilam, Jan 22: Export of ginger to India from Ilam district has declined by 62 per cent this year as compared to previous year, due to border blockade.

The district exported ginger worth Rs 690 million to India this year against RS 3.21 billion. Out of 45,994 metric tonnes of ginger produced in the district this year, only 18,398 metric tonnes was exported, according to the District Agriculture Development Office.Information Officer Prakashmani Kafle said that the price of ginger has also decreased by 50 per cent as compared to previous year.

The ginger was produced on 3,233 hectares of land in the district and Irautar, Barbote, Namsalin, Ektappa, Shantidanda, Danabari, Laxmipur, Mangalbare, Dhuseni and Phikkal VDCs are known as pocket area for ginger production. RSS
