Imports surge via Birgunj Customs Office

BIRGUNJ, Jan 26: Imports through the Birgunj customs point recorded a notable rise in the first six months of the current fiscal year (FY), with goods and commodities worth Rs 438.21 billion entering the country.



The figure represents a 15.30 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year, when imports worth Rs 380.06 billion were recorded through the Birgunj Customs Office.

Uday Singh Bista, Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, said the checkpoint witnessed a significant uptick in imports during the first half of the current FY, reflecting increased trade activity through the country’s main land port.


Petroleum products dominated the import list, with shipments worth Rs 90.06 billion. This was followed by iron and iron products valued at Rs 39.03 billion, and machinery and spare parts worth Rs 30.01 billion. Imports of crude soybean oil stood at Rs 27.72 billion.


Similarly, electric machinery, equipment, and parts worth Rs 24.61 billion were imported during the period, while textile imports amounted to Rs 19.04 billion.
