There is a significant presence of party palaces and banquet halls in the capital. Not only that, the catering business has seen a 15 to 20 percent growth over the last few years.
Baneshwor Banquet, Anmol Catering Service, Diyalo Foodland and Party Palace (DFPP), Namaste Kitchen and Party Palace (NKPP) and Anand Events and Meetings (AEM) and The Yellow Chilli are among the new party palaces and banquet halls in the town. All these party palaces claim to provde eclectic ambience, great foods and fancy parties.
According to event managers, there are more than 200 banquet halls in the capital.
"Until some years ago, it was very difficult to find a party palace during the peak season. However, the situation is not the same today. Within a span of 2 years, the number of party palaces has almost doubled and this year alone more than 50 new banquet halls have started business," said Dipak Shrestha, proprietor of Tripureshwor Party Palace.
"I chose to organize my daughter´s Pashni at a banquet hall though there were not many invitees. Services were hassle-free and I could enjoy the party," said Jasmine Sitaula of New Baneshwor. Like Sitaula, many people who would earlier organize their parties all by themselves are now complaining of not having enough time and choose a banquet hall or a catering firm to manage everything for them.
"People these days love to celebrate happy moments in life with friends and relatives. Be it festivals, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, a promotion, new harvest, new home, first baby or studying abroad, people simply look to enjoy and bond with each other," said Pushpa Raj Paudel, one of the proprietors of the newly-opened NKPP at Gairidhara.
NKPP opened with an investment of Rs 20 million and has the capacity to organize events for 500 people. According to Paudel, the menu for dinner or lunch starts at Rs 4,00 per person and NKPP focuses on local taste.
Sakunda Raj Aryal of AEM at Bhimsengola said he is focusing not only on parties but also on community events like household expos, club facilities and refreshment activities. AEM, established with an investment of Rs 1.5 million, can accommodate 1,500 people at a time and the menu starts from Rs 3,00 per person.
Similarly, DFPP with facilities such as garden cottage, indoor and outdoor banquet facility, international bar can accommodate 1,500 people at a time. DFPP is a multi-cuisine restaurant and serves specialty dishes such as sweet corn, seared chicken, crispy chicken, veg teel, spiderman meals, among others.
Bookings at these banquet halls go up during the wedding seasons i.e. mid-April to mid-July, mid-November to mid-December and mid-January to mid-March.
