KATHMANDU, Jan 29: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader and Kathmandu Constituency-4 candidate Pukar Bam has said his party is aiming to form a single-majority government with around 150 seats in the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
Speaking at Nagarik Frontline on Wednesday, Bam said RSP had concluded that coalition politics cannot deliver effective governance and was therefore pursuing a strategy to secure a “comfortable” majority on its own.

Bam said the party has set a target of 151 seats in line with the vision outlined by Swarnim Wagle. “It has already been proven that governments formed through coalitions fail to deliver,” he said. “Our best target is a two-thirds majority. Even if that is not possible, we aim to win around 150 seats—crossing at least 138—to run a stable government for five years.”
He claimed the party is running a nationwide campaign with a target of winning 80 to 85 seats under the first-past-the-post system and around 70 seats through proportional representation.
Bam also reiterated that it would be morally unacceptable for him to sit on the same platform with senior leaders of traditional political parties to debate good governance and corruption.
“Those who have ruined the country for 70 years and opened fire on their own citizens—sitting with them on the same stage and listening to lectures on good governance only lowers our level,” he said. “Gen Z wants an apology from them, not lessons on governance.”
