KATHMANDU, Jan 28: Paleti is set to welcome poet Bhushita Vasistha once again, bringing CVhhanda poetry back to the stage after nearly seven years. Bhushita previously performed a chhanda recital at Paleti, and her return is expected to captivate lovers of classical poetic forms.
Chhanda poetry is a lyrical and rhythmic literary tradition that once dominated Nepalese poetry but has gradually lost prominence with the rise of free verse. As the genre thrives mainly through oral recitation, melody and performance remain key to preserving its essence and passing it on to new generations.
Lyrical poems at April’s Paleti
This year’s Paleti performance will focus on Navarasa—the nine classical emotions. Bhushita will present selected works by senior and contemporary poets, alongside her own compositions. Organizers say the program aims to showcase the richness and musical depth of Nepali chhanda poetry.
The Chhanda Paleti will take place on January 30 and 31 at Nepalaya’s ‘R’ Hall in Kalikasthan in Kathmandu. The event will also be streamed live for audiences unable to attend in person.
