National Assembly urges govt to focus on issues affecting citizens’ daily lives

KATHMANDU, Jan 28: Members of the National Assembly drew the government’s attention to a range of contemporary issues during today’s meeting.



Speaking during the zero hour, lawmakers raised concerns over poor road conditions, the lack of relief for survivors of the Jajarkot earthquake, and the spread of misinformation on social media as elections approach.


Member Kamala Pant said that while victims of the 2015 earthquake received some relief, those affected by the Jajarkot earthquake have yet to receive any assistance, urging the government to provide immediate relief.

Narayan Dutta Mishra highlighted the deteriorating condition of roads across the country, noting that potholes have made travel difficult. He also drew attention to a blacktopping project in Doti district that has been left incomplete.


Bhuvan Bahadur Sunar recalled that funds allocated for Dalits in the previous fiscal year had remained unspent, and urged the Ministry of Finance to promptly implement the Rs 500 million allocated for the Dalit community in the current budget.


Yuvraj Sharma called on Prime Minister Sushila Karki and other ministers to make their assets public, stressing that transparency among those in power is essential for good governance. Rajendra Laxmi Gaire also raised concerns over the poor state of roads in various parts of the country, saying neglect of road construction has caused hardship for commuters.


National Assembly member Suresh Kumar Ale Magar urged the government to conduct a serious investigation into the significant loss of life and property during protests held on September 8 and 9.
