Earthquake toll reaches 8,716

Kathmandu, June 6: The April 25 earthquake, also referred as the Gorkha Quake, has claimed the lives of 8,716 persons from various places across the country, according to the latest update provided by the Central Police News Room.

Similarly, 22,500 persons were recorded to have sustained injuries due to the quake.

The quake killed 1,731 persons in the Kathmandu Valley, while 58 in the eastern region, 460 in the western region and two in the Mid-West region.

The Central region has recorded the highest number of deaths, standing at 6,464 while no casualties were recorded in the far-western region, the Police News Room shared.Among those sustaining injuries during the quake, 13,020 are from the Kathmandu Valley while 452 from the eastern region.

The highest number of injuries was recorded in the central region- 7,747.

Likewise, 1,242 persons were recorded to have injured in the western region, 36 in the mid-western and two in the far-western.

Of total injured, 4,402 persons have been undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the country, the update stated.

Among the deceased, 8,681 bodies have been handed over to the respective relatives. RSS
