BAITADI, Jan 9: The construction works of the Chameliya Hydro Power Project have not resumed even after two weeks of a parliamentary committee's directive.

The construction of the project based at Shikha VDC in Darchula has stalled since last May. The parliamentary committee had issued and instruction on December 27 for resumption of the works of the under construction project.

The Chinese Gejuwa Group of Power Company with contract of Civil Construction of the Project –which started in 2007 – had asked for payment of the amount added up as per an agreement following which the Parliament's Account Committee halted the construction work citing the amount in question was high.

The Project with capacity to generate 30 megawatt electricity continues to remain shut despite parliamentary directive, Company's Site In-Charge Pushpa Raj Joshi said.

"We do not have official information to start work," he said. The government has repeatedly extended the deadline for completion of the project from 2011 to 2013 and then from 2014 to 2016. RSS
