KATHMANDU June 18: The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand, which was established in 1959, has been a popular destination for Nepali students for higher studies.

To facilitate and offer a number of AIT Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs, Nepal Education Foundation- Consortium of Colleges, Nepal (NEF-CCN) and AIT signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on June 15 at Soaltee Crowne Plaza in Kathmandu.[break]

NEF-CCN was jointly formed by Little Angels’ College of Higher Studies, Xavier Academy College of Graduate Studies, and White House Education Network.

The program offered jointly with AIT will include a two-stage Bachelor’s and Master’s programs, and a five-year unified Bachelor-Master’s degree.

The chief guest at the program was Minister of Education Ganga Lal Tuladhar. On behalf of NEF-CCN, Dr. Sriram B Mathe, Chairman of NEF-CCN, and on behalf of AIT, Dr Said Irandoust, signed the agreement.

“The signing of the agreement will give Nepali students an access to an international-standard education. Students will study for two years in Nepal and continue the other two years at AIT,” NEF-CCN Board member Dr Pramod B Shrestha said.

He further added that this is a new beginning of quality-assured programs that are affordable and relevant to Nepal’s development.

Dr Joydeep Dutta, Vice-President of Academic Affairs of AIT, said that education today is all about exchange, and with the onset of the new two-stage program, he hopes that it will generate entrepreneurs and management students, among other disciplines, who will bring industrial revolution in the country.

“We realize that AIT in Bangkok alone will not fulfill the needs of the people across the region; so we’re trying to open wings,” he added.

Dr Sriram B. Mathe commented that they have shaped a dream with AIT, and the memorandum will provide opportunities to the students of Nepal, and so the courses will be started as soon as possible.

He further added that quality education is a perquisite for sustainable development, and it also is a necessity to be on par with other developed countries.

The quest for excellence should always be available, and we need to push the boundary of knowledge, “So the quality of the programs that we’ll offer will be no less in quality and will be better than at AIT in Bangkok,” he said.
