With the initiative of Nepal Education Foundation, AIT’s educational program will be brought in after the establishment of the AIT Campus in Nepal. It will be conducted under the joint efforts of White House of New Baneshwor, White House of Khumaltar, Little Angels’ College at Hattiban, and Xavier Academy of Lazimpat in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Running under the mission and vision of AIT Bangkok, this program will focus on unified franchised Bachelors’ programs. That is, students will have to complete their first phase in Nepal, and for the second and the final phase, they will be sent to Bangkok where they will complete the graduation process and earn an international degree.
The Asian Institute of Technology promotes technological changes and sustainable development in the Asian-Pacific region through higher education, research and outreach. Established in Bangkok in 1959, AIT has become a leading regional graduate and postgraduate institution and is actively working with public and private sector partners throughout the region and with some of the top universities in the world.

In Nepal, it is not under the affiliation of any university. It is directly associated to AIT Bangkok which itself has a recognition of a university.
“We don’t want competition, we just want to impart quality,” says Yubaraj Sharma, CEO of White House College. This is also one of the reasons why the institute is being run under a single affiliation.
The programs of AIT offer courses in civil engineering, environmental engineering, environment and energy and also Masters in Business Administration. Besides these, some other features offered by AIT include double degree programs as well as other management and science courses.
Dr. Shree Ram Mathe, the Chairman of Nepal Education Foundation, says, “AIT Nepal will serve as the bridging institute.”
According to him, although the engineering courses taken in western universities provide wide knowledge about advanced and equipped technology, knowledge regarding such technologies may not be applicable practically in developing countries like Nepal. AIT, however, cover areas that also incorporate courses on high-tech engineering and rural-area engineering, like water and sanitation engineering, sewage engineering, telecom engineering, etc. This would create more jobs and prove even more effective in the practice of using science to build the nation.
Sailendra Sigdel, country representative of the AIT Extension in Nepal, says, “The educational institute will also initiate unified Masters and Bachelors’ programs in Business Administration. This program will first start from Little Angels’ (LA) in Lalitpur and Xavier Academy in Kathmandu. Besides that, MBA and EMBA programs will also be commenced.”
Sigdel happens to be a faculty member at AIT Bangkok.
He further added that AIT Nepal will not be following any of the boards here. The questions will be set by AIT Bangkok and exam papers will be sent to Bangkok for correction and evaluation.
To get admission to the AIT Extension in Nepal, one should have completed studying up to +2 or an equivalent level with a minimum score of 50 per cent or 2.5 GPA and should have a good command of English language.
Applying for the various AIT program in Nepal is stress-free. It is like applying to any other graduate or post-graduate college and requires a typical documentation which includes a mark sheet of the final academic year, a transfer certificate, citizenship certificate and a fully filled application form.
A student with 3.8 or more GPA could earn a full scholarship; and with work experience, the chances go up for students who have less GPAs. However, provisions for need-based scholarships have not been set.
