DHARAN, Nov 24: Normal life in the eastern districts has been crippled on Saturday due to the banda called by the former Maoist combatants declared disqualified by UNMIN and discharged from the cantonments.

They organized the indefinite shutdown across the country starting today demanding equal financial package as given to the combatants opting for voluntary retirement, removal of ´disqualified´ tag, among others. [break]

Due to the banda, marketplaces, shops, industries, factories and business sectors have been severely affected in the eastern regions.

Vehicles en-route to short and long routes have remained off the road owing to the strike.

“We were obliged to carry out stern protest program against the government of our own party as it failed to pay heed to our demands,” said Mausam Pathak, Sunsari district chief of  the organization of the disqualified combatants.
