KATHMANDU, Jan 1: At the ongoing Central Committee (CC) meeting, leaders from the Maoist radical faction said on Sunday that the party could move ahead united only if Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal makes self-criticism for his “ideological deviation and moral erosion”, and espouses the revolutionary party-line again.

The party hardliners also stated that they might not stay in the same party with the chairman as the latter has already taken a “revisionist” political line with complete disregard for the party´s mission.[break]

“It is not necessary that we stay in the same party as we have fundamental differences over the political line. The party leadership must take the revolutionary path if the party is to remain intact,” a leader quoted party leader Suresh Ale Magar as saying. Ale Magar, who is close to Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya, was of the opinion that the party can save its revolutionary character by intensifying the class struggles in society.

According to the participants at the meeting, the Baidya faction leaders strongly demanded that Dahal make self-criticism for his ideological “deviation and moral erosion.”

They also rejected the party establishment´s offer that the party conduct debates on the ideological and political line and finally resolve the disputes at the general convention.

“The party has been built with the blood of 15,000 people, but the chairman and Baburam Bhattarai [party vice-chairman and prime minister] are compromising on the basics of the party´s agenda,” said Hari Bhakta Kandel who is close to Baidya.

“They can stick to the revisionist line, but we won´t. We don´t deify them and follow their path,” he said. But he added that the party may move ahead united if the chairman reverses his current path.

Of the total 148 central committee members, 72 have spoken at the meeting so far. The meeting is expected to continue for three more days.
