KOHALPUR, July 5: Candidate of CPN-UML Loot Bahadur Rawat  has been elected as the mayor of Kohalpur  Municipality. Rawat secured 9,007 votes while his immediate rival of Nepali Congress Bhanu Bhakta Bhattarai got 8,920 votes.

KATHMANDU, July 4: The power tussle raging within the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) has taken a nasty turn with several leaders from western tarai accusing the party leadership of using them and their constituencies as a scapegoat to secure its electoral interests in Province 2 in the east. RJPN"s presidium constitutes six leaders, all from the central and eastern tarai.

NEPALGUNJ, July 5: Major political parties have lost their traditional strongholds in various districts of Province 5 and 7 in the June 28 local level elections.

TIKAPUR, July 5: The newly-elected mayor and deputy mayor have assumed their offices in Tikapur Municipality. After assuming office, Mayor Tapendra Bahadur Rawal has already begun to work on some of the promises he had during his election campaign. He has decided to form a taskforce for the conservation and development of the Tharu language under a panel of experts. Before the polls, he had promised to work on making Tharu language an official language of business in a program organized by the Jaycees in Tikapur.
