NEW YORK, Sept. 25: Prime Minister Balendra Shah held a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the UN headquarters in New York on Thursday.
Prime Minister Shah, who is in New York to attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, met Guterres at 6:30 pm local time Thursday (4:15 am Friday Nepal time), before addressing the UN General Assembly, according to the PM Secretariat.

During the meeting, Shah thanked Guterres for his goodwill toward Nepal and congratulated him on his successful tenure. Highlighting the colossal losses Nepal suffered in the Bhotekoshi disaster in Rasuwa, Shah noted that the risk of glacial lake outburst floods remains high.
Guterres expressed deep sympathy over the loss of lives and property in the Bhotekoshi disaster and said the United Nations stands in solidarity with Nepal on climate issues. He also praised the young Nepali delegation.
Recalling his visit to Nepal as a tourist in 1978, Guterres expressed his commitment to continue supporting Nepal even after his term ends.
The two also discussed the rehabilitation of riverside residents and green reconstruction. Matters related to extending Nepal’s graduation timeline from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category were also discussed, according to the PM Secretariat.
