POKHARA, Jan 9: Vehicles will not be allowed to enter the Lake Side of Pokhara for seven hours every Saturday throughout Nepal Tourism Year 2011.

The No Vehicle Zone would be enforced from three in the afternoon so that promotional activities may be conducted to more attract tourists. Coordinator of the Vehicle Prohibited Area Management Committee Surya Bahadur Bhujel said the move is also expected to attract more tourists as prohibiting vehicles from playing in the area would reduce pollution.[break]

“We have decided to enforce the No Vehicle Zone for seven hours every week,” Bhujel said. The ban would be enforced along the three-kilometer stretch from Komagane Park to Hallan Chowk during the first phase of the campaign and would then be extended to other parts of the city.

Thirteen roads are linked to the main road of Lake Side.

Iron chains will be put at the end of the connecting roads to stop vehicles from entering the area. “We will allow vehicles to ply only for emergency purpose and prohibit entry of all other vehicles,” Bhujel added. Notice boards would be erected at the end of each connecting roads with details of the hotels and restaurants in the vicinity.

The committee will also organize cultural programs at different points of the area to entertain the tourists.
