Pradigm, Anal Jyoti in final
KATHMANDU: Paradigm and the ´B´ team of the host Anal Jyoti entered into the final of the min boys´ section of the 11th Annal Jyoti Cup Valley-wide Inter School Volleyball Tournament on Friday. Annal Jyoti ´B´ defeated Gyanodaya 25-20, 23-25, 25-21 to book the final at its home court at Sunakothi, Lalitpur. Paradigm edged past defending champion Samakhushi English Boarding School (SEBS) 25-10, 15-25, 25-9.
Likewise, New Diamond ´A´ set up a final clash against Bijeshwari in girls´ section of the tournament. New Diamond thrashed SEBS 25-5, 25-18, 25-8 to enter final while Bijeshwari pulled 12-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-6 victory over Adarsha Soul. The final matches will be played Saturday.
NRSF to host peace race
KATHMANDU: Nepal Republican Sports Federation (NRSF) announced to host an international marathon in Lumbini in Falgun (February-March). “We´ll organize the marathon as a World Peace Race,” said Mahesh Newa, the general secretary of NRSF. NRSF is a sister organization of UCPN (Maoist).
Nat´l athletics c´ship today
KATHMANDU: Nepal Amateur Athletics Association (NAAA) is all set to organize National Open Athletics Championship Saturday at Dasharath Stadium. According to NAAA President Nilendra Raj Shrestha, altogether 120 athletes will participate in the seven events of male and six events of female. The winners of the championship will get cash prizes.
Shrestha elected NBBFA president
KATHMANDU: The third general assembly of Nepal Body Building and Fitness Association on Friday elected Rajesh Babu Shrestha as its president. Bijay Lal Kayastha has been elected as the first vice-president and Narayan Pradhan as the second vice-president. While Dinesh Kumar Rajbhandari is the general secretary of the newly elected committee, Rajan Shrestha and Sagar Bagale are the elected secretary and treasurer respectively. Yadhav Bahadur Pandey and Rabindra Shrestha were nominated as the members by the first meeting of the newly elected executive committee.
TIA lifts basketball titles
KATHMANDU: Host TIA lifted the titles of both boys´ and girls´ categories of the ninth TIA Inter School Basketball Tournament on Friday. In the boys´ category, TIA registered a narrow 25-24 win over Daffodil. Abhishek Gurung, who was later adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP), scored nine points for the winning team. In the girls´ category, TIA beat Mahendra Bhawan 19-16 as Pratima Malla scored 13 points. Malla was declared the MVP.
Dolphin into quarters
KATHMANDU: Dolphin School advanced into the quarterfinals of the 16th National Friar Moran Memorial Invitational Football Tournament thrashing Chelsea 4-0 on Friday. Sunil Pariyar and Dipesh Silwal scored a brace each in the game. In other matches of the league round, Saurav Dahal scored a lone goal as Saint Xavier´s Jawalakhel defeated Subha Tara 1-0 while NAPF beat United by the same scoreline. Mukesh Yadav scored the winner for NAPF.

KATHMANDU: Saint Xavier´s Godavari was held to a 2-2 draw by IJ Pioneer in the boys´ football match during the 18th Eicher Gyan Carnival on Friday. Meanwhile, Siddhartha Vanasthali earned a walk-over from Galaxy.
Gaurab Shah leads Qatar Airways Open golf
KATHMANDU: Gaurab Shah posted a card of 33 stableford points to lead the Qatar Airways Open Golf Championship at Gokarna Forest Golf Resort on Friday. Charlie Gurung also scored an identical score but Gaurab had a better score in back nine. RR Pandey scored 32 points to lead in the senior category. Puspa Rai recorded a best card in the ladies´ category with 33 points and Kesang Lama is second with 30 points. Tashi Ghale is leading best gross with 30 gross points.
Tashi Ghale is also leading on the longest drive and Gaurab Shah leading on closest to the pin. Sonam Ongdi scored 25 stableford points to win in juniors´ category.
Nepali ski team off to China
KATHMANDU: A four-member Nepali ski team, including two players, left Kathmandu on Friday to participate in the FIS (Federation International Ski) Race that will begin at Beidahu Ski Area in Changchun City, China from Saturday. Anisha Karmacharya and Bibash Lama will participate in gaint slalom and slalom events in the race. “We have applied for wild cards for the upcoming First Winter Youth Olympic Games to be held in Innsbruck, Austria. Our athletes should have a FIS score to get it. This FIS race in China will give that opportunity to our athletes,” said Jeewan Ram Shrestha, the president of Nepal Ski Association (NSA).
Jeetendra Shrestha is the team manager of the Nepali team while Sher Bahadur Gurung is coach. NSA President and Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) General Secretary Shrestha and other NOC officials bade farewell to the team on Friday. “These two athletes are products of NSA training program,” said Shrestha. “Though we don´t have ski area in our country NSA has been organizing foreign trainings,” claimed Shrestha.
Sankata moves on top
KATHMANDU: Sankata Club defeated Madhyapur Youth Association 2-1 on Friday in the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull B Division League football tournament. Rishi Rai gave a lead to Sankata in the 62nd minute but Saroj Gharti Magar levelled the score in the 69th minute. Phurba Chhiring Yonjan scored a goal for Sankata in the 75th minute to seal the match. Sankata went on top with 11 points and better goal difference after Friday´s result.
Birgunj, Boys Union also have 11 points. Meanwhile, the match between Laligurans Pulchowk Sports Club and Kathmandu Club ended in a goalless draw. Following the draw, Kathmandu Club has 10 points while Pulchowk has nine points in its kitty.
