KATHMANDU, Dec 30: A wild elephant has entered the ongoing Elephant Festival in Sauraha, Chitwan. On the last day of the festival, a wild elephant named Makuna, entered the festival venue and disrupted the event taking place at that moment.
The elephant entered the venue during the closing ceremony of the Elephant Festival taking place in Baghmara Community Forest.

Efforts are being made to drive Makuna away from the venue. However, the elephant keeps on returning to the venue. The Nepali Army has also been deployed at the venue for security. As the elephant entered the event, the festival's award distribution and other programs were postponed.
The 18th Chitwan Elephant and Tourism Festival began on December 26 in Sauraha, Chitwan. The festival was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh with the goal to promote elephant-friendly tourism.
Earlier on December 21, Indian actor and film producer John Abraham had requested the Nepal government to cancel the Chitwan Elephant Festival.
