DHADING, July 1: Most of the private schools in the country, basically those affluent ones, have run digital classes amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. Millions of children, however, have not been able to attend such classes, thanks to the lack of digital technologies at their home.
DAMAULI, Jan 19: Minister for Financial Affairs and Planning at Gandaki province, Kiran Gurung, said time has come to debunk the stereotypical notion that the community schools are for the children coming from the impoverished communities.
MUGU, Aug 8: A community school in Mugu exclusively run by female teachers has set an example. Pashupati Basic School located in Chhayanath Rara Municipality did not perform well in the past. However, recently, it has progressed dramatically.
ILAM, June 25: Until a decade ago, it would be a taxing job to find a community school that would instruct students in English. As students were gradually switching to private schools to study in English, community schools came under pressure to respond to the demand.
SARLAHI, June 18: The headmaster of a community school in Sarlahi district has been accused of beating his students black and blue. One of the students allegedly lost consciousness for some time due to the thrashing on Monday while other five students have sustained injuries due to the teacher’s beating.
CHITWAN, June 8: Manika Praja of Kunagaun village of Madi Municipality used to walk for over an hour everyday to reach her school located at Kharkatta village. While returning home, the distance would feel even longer as she would be exhausted due to the long hours of study at the school. Praja would have to walk for at least three hours every day to get education.
SURKHET, May 20: Liladhar Chapai of Gurvakot Municipality had decided that his children would attend private school even before they were born. Despite being a teacher at a community school, he had no faith in the quality of the education provided by community schools. However, this year he admitted his daughter to Jana Secondary School, a community school, in 9th grade.
PARBAT, April 22: Community school teachers are accused of admitting their children in private schools despite themselves being associated with community schools. Of late, various government authorities are pressurizing these teachers to enroll their children in the schools where they teach.
GORKHA, April 14: Although article 31 of Nepal’s constitution states that every citizen shall have the right to get free education up to the secondary level, community schools in Gorkha are charging fees for students studying in basic to secondary levels.
DHADING, March 2: Chepangs in Goirang village of Dhading have never experienced how it feels like using electricity. Sometimes, they cannot even light their lamps when they have no oil in stock. A community school in one such village has received computers. Chepang kids have now seen computers, but have not learnt to use them.
HUMLA, Sept 21: Two community schools in Kharpunath Rural Municipality, Humla district have received technical assistance from Good Neighbours International and Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Centre (KIRDRC), Nepal.
