World's shortest man, Dangi, dies

By
KATHMANDU, Sept 4: The world's shortest man Chandra Bahadur Dangi from Dang district died while undergoing treatment in the United States. He was 76. Dangi was reported to be suffering from pneumonia.

Dangi was declared the world's shortest man in February 2012 by the Guinness World Records book. He was 21.5 inches (54.6 cm) tall then.

Born to Belaram and Pingala Dangi in Dang as their third son, Chandra Bahadur Dangi always had hard life due to his unusual height. However, after achieving worldwide recognition due to his stature, he had later said that 'curse turned into boon in my life'.

Dangi had said that he wished to popularize his village and travel within and outside Nepal. Soon after being the 'world's shortest man' three years ago, he had met the world's shortest woman, Joyti Amge of Nagpur, India. The pair had posed together for the 57th edition of the Guinness World Records 2013. Later in November 2014, Dangi had an opportunity meet the world's tallest living man, Sultan Kosen, in London.

Dangi was never married and he used to live with his eldest brother and his family in Rhimkholi village in Dang. He was fond of rice, vegetable and meat, which he would eat in small quantity. Dangi's news was first reported by the local media and went viral after the national media featured his stories.
