BUTWAL, Nov 15: Rabi Lamichhane, the chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), who is under investigation on the charge of embezzlement of the savings of Supreme Cooperative of Butwal, has been taken to Pokhara from Bhairahawa.
Earlier, Lamchhane was taken to Bhairahawa via air from Kaksi last Tuesday for a statement which was concluded late yesterday evening.
According to Rupandehi police, although the Buddha Air flight was scheduled to operate at 7:45 am today, Lamichhane was sent to Pokhara on a Yeti Airlines flight at 1:30 pm, due to the airport not being open.
Lamichhane taken to Bhairahawa
Ranjit Singh Rathore, Superintendent of Police (SP) and chief of the District Police Office, Rupandehi, said that Lamichhane was sent to Pokhara as soon as the airport opened.
Attorney Premraj Paudel from the District Government Attorney’s Office in Rupandehi said that Lamichhane’s statement was recorded over 3 days and 23 hours in connection with the case of embezzlement of funds.
Attorney Paudel said that 74 questions were answered during the 23-hour statement on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with Lamichhane. Lamichhane’s statement was recorded from 10.30 am to 8 pm on Thursday. Lamichhane was taken out of the public prosecutor's office at 8:25 pm.
Lamichhane’s statement was recorded in Rupandehi in connection with the embezzlement of funds of the Supreme Cooperative through Gorkha Media Network.
During the statement, Lamichhane denied that he was involved in the misappropriation of savings stating that he was not a member of the Supreme Savings and Credit Cooperative.
The report of a parliamentary investigation special committee and the police mentioned that Lamichhane received 20 million from Supreme Cooperative, and 142 million was sent to the Gorkha Media Network through various individuals under the names of GB Rai affiliates.
