Villagers flock shortest man Dangi's home

By
RIMKHOLI (DANG), March 5: The world´s shortest man Chandra Bahadur Dangi could not sleep at all on Saturday night after his return to his village from Kathmandu. Not that he had some health issues or any other problem.

It was the eager crowd consisting of his village folks that had gathered to hear his tales from Kathmandu that kept him awake the whole night. Everyone was excited to listen to what he had to say about the journey, and the most ardent among the listeners were children. [break]

After distributing candies to the kids and sharing a pack of cigarettes with some elderly people, Dangi began: “My god, the buildings in Kathmandu were so big that I could not see their top. And, you know, there are countless vehicles there. I even saw tiger, leopard and peacock, and many other animals. There is everything in Kathmandu.”

What excited Dangi most was the flight to and fro his village. He had never dreamt of flying in an airplane. “I was quite nervous at the time of the plane´s taking off and finally at the time of its landing. But while on the air, it felt nice,” he said. “You know, an airplane is just like a bird but there is also a window from where you can peep out,” he told his listeners.

The shortest man ever had no time to take rest even for a while after he reached his village on Saturday.

The villagers were also telling Dangi that they had seen him on television. In fact, Dangi´s sister-in-law had invited everyone in the village to her house to watch him receive the award when it was aired on television.

Dangi thinks receiving the ward was an unbelievable episode of his life but he still nurtures one dream. “I wanted to meet the Prime Minister, well, better luck next time,” he quipped.

Dangi met Nepali Congress leaders Khum Bahadur Khadka, in Kathmandu, and Sherbahadur Deuba, at Nepalgunj airport. “Deuba was going to Pyuthan and invited me to join him. But I refused to join him,” Dangi said. “I had a good talk with Khadka. I told him that we have no roads, electricity and drinking water facility in our village. He assured me about doing something,” he added.

Dangi´s Rimkholi village, which is 90 kilometers away from the headquarters, is deprived of basic facilities. It requires two hours of walking from where the motor road ends to reach Dangi´s house.

“I wish I could meet the prime minister and tell him to work for the welfare all Nepalis,” Dangi said. He, however, could not identify the PM.
