Van accident inside school premises claims life of 9-year-old student in Kathmandu

A tragic accident inside the premises of Edify International School in Kalanki on Monday afternoon claimed the life of a student and injured seven others, including the driver.

KATHMANDU, June 16: A tragic accident inside the premises of Edify International School in Kalanki on Monday afternoon claimed the life of a student and injured seven others, including the driver.


According to the District Police Range (DPR), Kathmandu, 9-year-old Sonakshi Yadav, a permanent resident of Sarlahi whose family is currently residing in Kuleshwar, succumbed to the injuries after being hit by the school van. She died while undergoing treatment at Sahid Memorial Hospital.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Apil Raj Bohara at the DPR told Republica that initial investigation suggests that the students and teachers of the school were injured after the van crashed into a pillar while exiting the school premises.


Five other students who were injured in the incident are undergoing treatment at Nepal National Hospital. The van driver, Harka Bahadur Karki, 60, and the school's principal Suraj Pokhrel, 46, who were also injured in the accident, are currently receiving treatment at Vayodha Hospitals in Balkhu.
