KATHMANDU, June 23: Two individuals have been arrested for defrauding money by promising to influence the investigation of suspects in the 60 kg gold smuggling case. The arrested are 63-year-old Krishna Prasad Sharma, alias KP Sharma, from Arghakhanchi, and 43-year-old Jhawindra Khatri from Rupandehi.
Spokesperson for the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, SP Hobindra Bogati, stated that the police arrested them on Friday.
According to Bogati, it was revealed that they took Rs 850,000 by promising to influence the investigation related to Paywell Nepal Pvt. Ltd’s employee accused of making payment for the smuggled gold. The police are continuing further investigation into the matter.
Among those arrested, Sharma is a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). He had recently gained attention due to his controversial statements on social media. Some supporters of medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai garlanded him with shoes at Gaushala some time ago.
