KATHMANDU, April 3: The government has increased fares for long-distance public transport by up to 15 percent.
Similarly, a ministerial meeting of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has decided to increase the fare of passenger vehicles by 10 percent.
According to the Department of Transport Management, fares for freight vehicles in the hilly region have increased by 13 percent and by 15 percent in Terai.
Transport businessmen have been pressuring the government to increase fares for some time now, citing the rising prices of petroleum products.
