KATHMANDU, Sept 26: Transport entrepreneurs of Khotang district have raised fares on public vehicles by 10 percent, immediately after the government in Kathmandu agreed to let transport organizations raise fares.
Fares have been increased on all short- and long-route public vehicles operating in the district, directly affecting the people's transportation ahead of Dashain festivals.
Reluctance to implement adjusted transport fares
As per the agreement between transportation entrepreneurs and government at the central level, new rates on public vehicles have been implemented in the district from Tuesday itself, Khotang Transportation Pvt Ltd said.
With the fare hike, one-way ticket from Diktel to Kathmandu costs Rs 1320. Similarly, the rate from Diktel to Gaighat is Rs 880, Diktel to Bhojpur Rs 880, and Diktel to Dharan Rs 1298. Likewise, one has to pay Rs 1320 to travel from Diktel to Biratnagar, Rs 880 to Katari, and Rs 1012 to Lahan.
Likewise, within the district, one has to pay Rs 400 on Diktel-Halesi, Rs 600 on Diktel-Jayramghat, Rs 320 on Diktel-Kharmi, Rs 275 on Diktel-Pathekaka, Rs 550 on Diktel-Panchami, and Rs 330 for Diktel-Mattim routes. While traveling by SUV, one-way rate from Diktel to Kathmandu is Rs 1750.
Meanwhile, Nepal Student Union protested for an hour at Diktel bazaar on Tuesday against of the government for increasing transport fares and petroleum prices.
