SPORTS BRIEFS: HISSAN Sports Week begins

BIRATNAGAR, Dec 19: HISSAN Sports Week kicked off in Biratnagar on Saturday with the slogan “Unity, Peace and Development”. Football and cricket are the main events of the sports week organized by the Morang chapter of the Higher Secondary School Association of Nepal (HISSAN). 684 students studying in higher secondary schools in Morang are participating in the sports week. Bhanu Memorial High School defeated Lord Buddha 2-1 in the inaugural football match held at the Martyr Stadium. Suman Basnet of Lord Buddha scored an early goal in the second minute while Kamalesh Chaudhary scored an equalizer in the 60th minute. Bhanu captain Sandeep Suwal sealed the match six minutes later with a second goal.







According to organizers, the football matches will be held at the Martyr Stadium while cricket matches will take place at the Degree College and District Cricket Association grounds. Orchid will face City College in Sunday´s football match while in cricket, Maryland will take on Kanchenjunga and City College will vie with Martyr´s.The sports week ends on December 26.





NAPF defend football title



KATHMANDU, Dec 19: Defending champions Nepal Armed Police Force (NAPF) School claimed the title of the 14th Father Moran Memorial Invitational School Level Football Tournament on Saturday.



NAPF nailed Little Angels´ (LA) 4-0 in the final match held at the St Xavier´s football ground, Godavari. Sushant Karki scored two goals while Pradeep GC and Dinesh Shahi netted one goal each for the winners.



Meanwhile Dolphin School secured the third position defeating Regina Amoris 1-0. Sameer Silwal scored the decider for Dolphin.



Sushant Karki of NAPF was declared the best player of the tournament. Dolphin´s Shreemad Silwal, Shakti Dura of LA and NAPF´s Sudhan Bhandari were named the best defender, goalkeeper and coach respectively. Likewise, Prajjwal Bista of NAPF bagged the most promising player award. Kathmandu University School was declared the most disciplined school.



Gyanu Baba lead in women´s double league volleyball



KATHMANDU, Dec 19: Defending champions Gyanu Baba Academy have taken the lead in the Fourth Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women´s Double League Volleyball Tournament after a double victory on Saturday.



In the first match, Gyanu Baba thrashed Deep Jyoti 25-12, 25-5, 25-6 while in the second match, they saw off New Diamond 25-12, 25-16, 25-14.







In other matches, Nepal Police defeated Angel Heart 25-13, 25-18, 25-14 while they faced a 25-27, 25-15, 26-24 defeat from Fishtail. Likewise, second seeded Angel Heart with 7 points beat PLA 25-17, 25-23, 25-23.



The matches were held at Bishal Training Covered Hall, Pokhara.
