The sports week organized by Morang chapter of Higher Secondary Schools´ Association of Nepal saw clashes in both the matches of the final day. The matches were delayed for half-an-hour and the police had to resort to force to resume the matches.
Araniko disrupted the football final in the second-half accusing the referee of biased judgment after their opponent team COBAS´s Anil Adhikari took the ball from the middle of the field and scored a one-versus-one goal in the 59th minute. Sagar Ghimire scored an equalizer for Araniko 23 minutes after the resumption of the game. Sagar was awarded a penalty. COBAS then interrupted the match. An agreement was reached between the two teams to add five minutes of extra time during which none of the sides scored any goals. Araniko defeated COBAS 5-4 in tiebreaker after the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Rajesh Chaudhary of Koshi Campus was declared the best goalkeeper and Manakamana´s Dil Kumar Magar was named the best midfielder. Siddhartha´s Anupam Rajbanshi bagged the best defender award while Kewal Maharjan of Maryland was declared the best player. Sungava Secondary School and Devkota School received the rising team and disciplined team awards respectively. Meanwhile, Devkota´s Gagan Mudiyari received the highest scorer award.
Meanwhile, Lord Buddha defeated City College by three wickets in the cricket final. Batting first, City were all out for 157 runs in 19.5 overs in the match held at the Degree College´s ground. In reply, Lord Buddha met the target of 158 runs in 19 overs losing seven wickets. Prashant Das scored the highest 44 runs.
Lord Buddha´s all-rounder Khalid Raja was declared the best bowler and man-of the-match while City College´s Bivek Jha bagged the best batsman award.
Grand Academy, Seabird, TIA win in Akhil Cup Football
KATHMANDU, Dec 26: Grand Academy, Seabird College and TIA won their respective matches during the Akhil Cup-2009 on Saturday.
Grand Academy defeated British Gorkha College 2-0 in the match played at the Chyasal Ground, Lalitpur. Sanjog Rai and Rajesh Khadgi scored for the winning side.
Seabird thrashed NCIT 8-0 in the second match of the day. Sameer Banshi and Sujan Pradhan scored two goals each while Raj Kumar Lama, Nirmal Shrestha, Manoj Ranjit and Deepak Thapa Magar added one each.
Likewise, Team ´A´ of TIA demolished Himalayan College 7-1 in another high-scoring match. Shyam Nepali and Pawan Khadka struck twice for TIA. Subas Baniya, Dinesh Karki and Bimal Nepali scored one each for the winner. Suman Rajbahak scored the lone goal for Himalayan.
